More on Polls

My polls are closed. The most voted book was The Grey Griffins book 1: The Revenge of the Shadow King by Derek Benz and J.S. Lewis! The most voted movie was (my personal favorite) Clash of the Titans! I will most likely do a review on all the movies and books that you had to choose from, but this helps me decide which to review first. The next review will probably be Clash of the Titans, since I own the movie, and then will come The Revenge of the Shadow King (I'm reading it while writing this post). I, also, have the audio version of The Revenge of the Shadow King, so I'll be able to go back and forth reading and listening to it!

Polls

I've added 2 polls to my blog, to help me decide what to review. There's one for movies, and one for books. Both polls will close March 30, 2008, at 6:45 p.m. I'm currently reading the books on the book poll, and I've already seen the movies on the movie poll, so I'm prepared to do a review on them! I'm working on a review on the most recent book I've read, Maximum Ride 4: The Final Warning by James Patterson, and I'm planning on getting that out soon. I also hope you'll give me some suggestions for movies and books to review, by posting a comment, or emailing me. I'm new at working with polls, so if there's something wrong, please mention it.

The Sisters Grimm book 1: Fairy Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley

The Sisters Grimm book 1: Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley:

The Sisters Grimm series is about 2 sisters, Sabrina age 11 and Daphne age 7, who's ancestor is Wilhelm Grimm, one of the Brothers Grimm. The girls lived in New York, before Sabrina and Daphne's parents disappeared over a year ago, and they were sent to an orphanage after the police had searched for a while. The girls had been sent to many homes, but had ran away and back to the orphanage every time, because the people they stayed with were either crazy or mean. Then, someone called the police, claiming to be the girls's grandmother. The orphanage sent them to Ferryport Landing, where the lady lived, though Sabrina had claimed that their dad told them their grandmother had died. Ferryport landing isn't like New York. It's a small town with no malls, museums, or movie theatres. Just when Sabrina thought things couldn't get worse, she and Daphne are told this tale about how the Grimm family are fairy-tale detectives, solving magical and mysterious cases that aren't just what the human eye can see. Relda Grimm says the fairy-tale creatures and people are called Everafters, and Daphne is excited and believes every word; but, Sabrina thinks Relda is just a crazy old woman. When they, later, find out that Relda is their grandmother, and that the fairy-tales are real, it's when a giant finds them and takes Relda and her friend Mr. Canis away! Worse is still to come, though. The girls find out that the fairy-tales are trapped in Ferryport Landing, because of a spell that was cast a long time ago. The only way the spell can be broken is if the Grimm family ceases to exist! With Relda Grimm and Mr. Canis captured by a giant, and most of the Everafters wishing the worst for the Grimms, Sabrina and Daphne make friends and become allies with the most unexpected people. They knew there was something going on, but they never expected the adventure they got! Monsters and mayhem, twists and turns, things are changing in an instant for the Sisters Grimm.
I liked these books, because you never get what you expect. You believe one thing will happen, you almost know what will happen, but you're rarely right! Lots of adventure, many surprises, and a bit of humor. I give this book 3 stars!

I did see the movie, and I'm currently reading the book (I'm, actually, currently reading many books). I hope to post my review on both, once I'm finished. Though, I'm not sure when exactly the review will be posted, because I have a list of movies and books that I could review.

Everlost by Neal Shusterman

My new review is on a book that I just finished reading today. It's called Everlost, by Neal Shusterman:

Everlost is about two fourteen-year-old strangers, who meet by the oddest conditions. Allie and Nick are total strangers, until a car accident. Allie was with her dad, Nick with his family on their way to a wedding. The two cars collided, and sent Nick and Allie flying through the windshields and into the forest by the road. They wake up to see another boy, about eleven, who explained to them where they were and how they got there. Allie and Nick decided to call the boy Leif. Leif told them that they had died in the car accident, but when their souls were traveling down a tunnel to wherever souls of the dead end up, they got off trail and were stuck in a place called Everlost. Everlost is a place where all the lost souls of children end up. There are only children, because the adults all always "get where they're going," in other words, to the end of the tunnel. Everlost is about Leif, Allie, and Nick's journey around Everlost. They meet other kids like them, and find that the lost souls of children are called Afterlights. They also learn of a monster called the McGill, a monster that no one's seen that survived. They also learn of an Afterlight called the Haunter, who got his name from being the only one known to be able to interfere with the living world. The Haunter is said to be able to bring things from the living world into Everlost. When Leif and Nick are captured by the Haunter, Allie tries to rescue them. But, when she finally gets to the place her friends are, she finds that the place has been raided by the McGill, and the McGill took all the Afterlights that the Haunter had captured. Now, she has to go and fight the only monster known to Everlost to save Leif and Nick. I'd give this book 3 1/2 stars for good writing, story, and characters!

This is a reply to Anonymous, who commented that they read Twilight, and thought it was such a love-dove story that they hated it:

Interesting comment, Anonymous! I'm glad you gave us your opinion, but I'm curious how you got to that conclusion. I, myself, don't care for a mushy-gushy love story, but I found Twilight nowhere near that theory. Also, about the vampire thing, the vampires aren't supposed to be like the vampires everyone is so used to. They're meant to be able to live amongst the humans more easily, by not having the qualities that give them away (like fangs, and being burnt by the sun). Again, I'm very curious about how you got to this conclusion, and I'm hoping you'll explain what parts exactly you didn't like about the books.
